Advocacy & Action Both Big and Small
How did we get so lucky (sarcasm) to be making art during the rise of fascism and the collapse of safety nets globally?!
It's overwhelming. It's scary. It's very real.
I won't spend much time on this newsletter telling you things that you're already doom scrolling, because that's not helpful. Our hope is to provide some relief, by simply sharing the tangible actions we at Bechdel Project (and within our own families) are doing to create/find support, build resilience, and fight for a better future.
Join us in any or all of these, or heck, use it as inspiration to find your own ways through. Just be sure to share your action ideas with us too!
In love and solidarity,
Maria, Jens, & Lucy

Take to the street and be a beacon of hope in your city every Thursday at 7pm! One of many weekly rituals of resistance and hope as outlined in this recent Ms. Foundation article. Make it part of your weekly catch up with friends, bring snacks and scream your face off in the name of justice.
Put your money into what you want to see more of - boycott what's causing harm, and make sure your favorite local spot stays open. We made a commitment in our business and personal families starting in January to no longer support certain businesses.
We also started prioritizing waste reduction, sourcing second hand, and leaning into a solidarity economy model within our community. It's increased our spending power for things that really matter and we couldn't be happier with the ethical economic relationships we've formed along with community solidarity.
Make your art and support artists! It matters. Fall applications are now open for our community space program and join our newsletter to hear about upcoming community member happenings around NYC.
